One UI 9 has started on the Galaxy S25 in the US. What changed since Korea

Five days after the Korean release, stable One UI 9 is reported on US Galaxy S25 phones, carrier and unlocked. What is confirmed, what is not, and what to do first.

On September 28, stable One UI 9 reached the Galaxy S25 line in South Korea, as we reported then. The change since that piece is geography: GSMArena reports on October 3 that the update is now going out to Galaxy S25 series phones in the US, on carrier and unlocked units. If you own one, it may already be waiting. If not; that is normal, because Samsung stages these.

What is reported, and by whom

GSMArena lists the Galaxy S25, S25+, S25 Ultra and S25 FE. It gives firmware builds ending in DZIF for the first three and CZIF for the S25 FE, and a download of about 4 GB, smaller for people who were in the beta. Other outlets, which I could not open, report that Verizon pushed the update to S25 phones on October 2, and that T-Mobile owners were still waiting in community threads. Treat the carrier order as reported, not confirmed. I did not find a Samsung newsroom post for the US release.

The Galaxy S25 Edge and the 2025 foldables, the Z Fold7 and Z Flip7, appear in some headlines about this rollout. The GSMArena report does not list them, so I am not counting them in until a source I could read does.

What did not change

This does not close the schedule question for older phones. Which Galaxy gets One UI 9 and when still stands: Samsung has not published a global date for the S24 line, the S23 line or older foldables, and the only dated schedule was one country's, which already moved twice. One outlet expects a wider expansion during the week of October 5 to 9. That is an expectation, not a Samsung statement.

What to do on an S25

Open Settings, Software update, Download and install. GSMArena notes that a phone that has not been offered the update yet can still check by hand, which means the rollout is gradual and not simultaneous. Before you install:

Early installs also produce the first round of bug reports. Waiting a week costs you nothing except the new features, and for most S25 owners it is a reasonable call. Samsung has not said that skipping a week puts you at risk.

For your S25: how much changes

It is a full version jump, from Android 16 to Android 17 underneath, so expect a new look and new settings in places. It is not a change in what the hardware can do. The camera, battery and chip are the ones you already have. For a phone that was working yesterday, the honest summary is that it should keep working, with a different interface, and the main reason to hurry is the security patch level, not the features.

If your phone is not an S25, the wait question is the same one the date that kept moving raised, and it still has no official answer. For the other side of keeping a phone longer, see what happens when a maker ends updates.
